Alex Ibru's Daughter - Omotuvie Ibru weds in London

When Maxwell Herbert Peile and Omotuvie Alexia Ibru were introduced by a mutual friend at Bristol University, England, little did they know it would lead to something more permanent.

The pair who interestingly resided in the same Hall of Residence, Wills Hall soon became friends, and was so inseparable that eleven years later, they decided to spend their lives together as husband and wife at ceremonies in Lagos, Nigeria and London, England.

Uvie, a member of the respected Ibru Dynasty and daughter of former Minister and Publisher of Guardian Newspapers in Nigeria, Mr. Alex Ibru and the delectable, Lady Maiden Ibru told OVATION that the couple were very delighted to have the traditional ceremony in Lagos where the Ibru family live and in London, where Max’s family live. Indeed many of the couple’s English friends were very keen to attend the Lagos event which they truly enjoyed.

The exciting love story of the couple who both cherish traveling and adventurous holidays swung into full gear on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 when Max proposed.

Recounting the exciting moment, the beautiful bride with a smile on her face said “We went to a pretty sea-side town in Dorset, England for the May bank holiday weekend. Max had been to this place before and there is a massive rock there called Pulpit Rock, very dramatically placed by the edge of the sea. It was a beautiful sunny spring day. We climbed to the top and we were looking out at the sea. It was perfect. Suddenly he got down on one knee and proposed. We spent the rest of the weekend celebrating before returning to London to celebrate with our family and friends.

With that major step, their journey to matrimony began in earnest. To honour her late dad, Uvie and Max decided to hold one of the ceremonies on his birthday, March 1st. Since it was going to be too cold in London at that time of the year, the date was booked for their traditional ceremony in Lagos. The church solemnization was then fixed for Saturday May 3rd, which was exactly a year after the dramatic proposal.

The Lagos ceremony was colourful and glamorous, and in true Lagos style, due to the clout and connection of the bride’s family, it was attended by the cream of the Nigerian society. In London, the couple chose to tie the nuptial knots inside the scenic St. Batholomew The Great Church in the heart of the City of London. This was the same church that Max’s parents had their own wedding years back. The London ceremony was more intimate as it was attended by very close friends of both families-and everything was bright and beautiful.
